ABOUT
Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences was founded in 1972 as the Oklahoma College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery and became a branch institution of Oklahoma State University in 1988. Since that time enrollment has grown to more than 790 students in degree programs in biomedical sciences, forensic sciences, health care administration and athletic training in addition to the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Close collaborations on degree programs including public health and veterinary medicine exist with the Stillwater campus.
Located near downtown Tulsa along the banks of the Arkansas River, the campus has an annual operating budget of $200 million, with more than 100 full-time faculty, and over 300 full-time staff.
THE POSITION
The Assistant/Associate Dean for Rural Health at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences is responsible for administrative duties relevant to the planning, development, delivery, and evaluation of those activities designated as Rural Health. He/she provides campus-wide leadership for the Oklahoma Rural Health Policy and Research Center (OKRPHRC), the Oklahoma State Office of Rural Health (OSORH), the Department of Rural Health, and TeleHealth.
The Assistant/Associate Dean for Rural Health reports directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. This position also works closely with OSU-CHS leadership, school heads, academic deans and associate deans throughout the Oklahoma State University system to enhance and facilitate collaborative research and scholarship surrounding Rural Health.
Reporting Structure:
Individuals reporting directly to the Assistant/Associate Dean for Rural Health include Director of Rural Medical Education; Director, Oklahoma State Office of Rural Health; Director of Telehealth, and Director of Rural Research and Evaluation and their staff. The position may elect to serve as Chair of the department of Rural Health.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
- Education: An earned doctor of osteopathy (D.O.) or medical doctor (M.D.) degree with current or prior specialty board certification.
- Experience: Five (5) years of rural health or related experience. Five (5) years of leadership and management experience. The successful candidate will have a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
- Other: Administrative skills and demonstrated effectiveness in grant and contract related fundraising as well as governmental and private foundation relations. Presentation skills and ability to communicate OSU’s mission and vision to hospital administrators, community members in rural Oklahoma, and at state and national rural health organization and agency meetings. Previous history of commitment to core organizational values, ethical conduct and leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in medical education; research and grant submission; and, significant knowledge of post graduate medical education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises and coordinates the rural health partners as related to education, research, policy and telemedicine activities
- Coordinates required reports and grant activities
- Develops and submits to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs an annual fiscal year operational budget for the Center, and administers the same; additionally provides any significant research information to the Vice President of Research
- He/she prepares requests for services, space, and equipment and executes the functions of the Center
- Evaluates performance and recommends actions pertaining to acquisition, promotion, retention, and dismissal of personnel
- Conducts regular meetings of assigned personnel and recommends programs for development and enrichment
- Evaluates, guides, and implements the strategic planning process for the Center and represents OSU-CHS at state and national rural health organization and agency meetings
