North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCAT) invites nominations and applications for the position of founding Dean of the newly created College of Science and Technology.
The Dean of the College of Science and Technology (CoST) is the chief academic and administrative officer for the College, and as such reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Dean provides leadership and visioning aligned with the University’s strategic plan. In addition to leading the development and administration of the College’s academic programs, the Dean is responsible for managing and allocating financial resources; promoting excellent teaching, scholarship and research; supporting faculty and staff development; and establishing strong relationships with other Colleges, institutes, corporations, government agencies, and the external community.
The College of Science and Technology houses the Departments of Applied Engineering Technology, Biology, Built Environment, Chemistry, Computer Systems Technology, Energy and Environmental Systems, Graphic Design Technology, Mathematics, and Physics.
The founding Dean will have a unique opportunity to collaborate with CoST colleagues and stakeholders to develop and align the mission and vision of the College with that of the University. The successful candidate will build upon the existing and diverse strengths of the College to create an integrative CoST anchored in innovative interdisciplinary thinking, teaching, and research in both traditional and emerging disciplines. The College seeks a Dean who is excited by current offerings, and capable of visionary growth and transformation of the CoST. The new Dean will work with CoST stakeholders to enhance the College’s competitiveness, growth, and success through strategic development of new degree programs, fundraising, and extramurally funded research programs, while maintaining focus on the quality of the education CoST offers its students.

Candidates must have an earned doctorate of relevance to the disciplines of the College and a record of successful teaching, research/scholarship/creative activity, and professional accomplishments to qualify for appointment at the rank of professor, with tenure. The successful candidate will have demonstrated organizational management, budgeting, public/community relations, fundraising and personnel development experience, and demonstrable evidence of cross-disciplinary achievements. It is also preferred that candidates have a successful track record of engaging students, growing organizations, and recruiting and mentoring personnel.
