THE POSITION
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will be responsible for all aspects of information and digital technology and services for Guideposts and will be an important member of the senior leadership team. The successful candidate will strategically partner with the CEO and organizational leaders to advance the mission of the company through change and growth. The CTO will be responsible for establishing and directing the strategy and plans for the company’s technology platforms and related architecture. This person will be instrumental in designing solutions that provide access to the rich data that is available for decision makers; ensure company tools and systems are up to date and provide opportunities for the organization to work smarter and have more access to data analytics and customer trends to ensure revenue growth. The CTO will build consensus inside the entire organization to lead the development and deployment of customer-facing applications and processes to support the flow and management of content and data between the company, partners, vendors, customers, and other third parties, including related reporting capabilities. The CTO is also responsible for all necessary elements of a high performance, scalable, and secure technology infrastructure and monitoring of new technologies and processes to assess their potential with respect to the company’s products and services.
The CTO will enable strategic growth opportunities to be realized through the use of technology and lead the digital, technology, and data management groups in a rapidly changing and evolving environment. This position will manage and direct technology staff, resources and vendors internally and externally to ensure execution. The CTO reports to the CEO and is a member of the Executive Management team.
REQUIREMENTS
- At least 10 years of experience in the Information Technology and/or Engineering arena
- At least 5 years of experience in executive management and strategic product development experience
- Deep understanding of digital content, ecommerce, and audience engagement
- Experience in the design/development of API-based CMS and digital asset management platforms
- Understanding of Drupal and other CMS platforms to recommend and build optimal modularized system for future growth
- Demonstrated success launching high quality digital products in a consumer oriented company
- Insightful, innovative and adapts well to a dynamic and fast-paced environment
- Excellent understanding of great user experience and how to enable through technology
- Motivated team player comfortable in a fast-paced, cross-functional evolving environment

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establish the company’s technical strategic vision and lead all aspects of the company’s product development
- Provide leadership to other department heads in a manner that supports the company’s culture, mission and values; offering creative technology solutions and counsel
- Conducts research and feasibility studies on new technologies and makes determinations on the probability and timing of implementation
- Engage with customers and potential customers to determine market requirements and product needs
- Research competitive products in order to assess competitive strengths/weaknesses
- Communicate the company’s technology and product strategy to investors, management, staff, partners, customers and stakeholders
- Create overall development and technology standards and practices and ensure adherence to such standards
- Manage development and technology budgets
- Help design measurable tactical and strategic indicators of success that includes data-driven inputs and outputs that will help Guideposts serve new and legacy customers across all content groups
- Cross-functional work with broad structural and human issues to enable delivery of great products with a laser focus on the business as a whole
- Partner closely with stakeholders to lead the continuous evolution of digital products and programs that (1) build stronger communities within the existing audience; (2) entice new audiences to engage with Guideposts products; and (3) protect and create revenue streams
- Envision, define and communicate product roadmap. Evangelize product vision with new ideas and product features
- Vigilantly protect and advocate brand identity and integrity; be an advocate for UX and UI design issues throughout engineering and QA phases of development
