BSA traces the company’s roots to 1900 with the establishment of The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company by Harvey S. Firestone in Akron, OH and Shojiro Ishibashi’s creation of the Bridgestone Tire Company Ltd. (later renamed Bridgestone Corporation) in Japan, in 1931. Bridgestone Corporation purchased Firestone in 1988 for $2.6 billion, transforming the companies’ combined operations into the world’s largest tire and rubber company.
In an effort to enhance BSA’s core business units and address customers’ needs and wants, the company does business in the Americas under a holding company structure. BSA owns several operation units and subsidiaries including building and industrial products, natural rubber, industrial fibers and textiles businesses, and the tire business.

In the 1940’s the Firestone Home & Auto Store emerged and the evolution of the retail stores continued with Firestone Complete Car Service opening in the 1960s offering expanded under-car and under-hood service.

By the late 1970’s the retail group refocused efforts solely on automotive service and tire sales. In 1981, the Firestone MasterCare Car Service concept was introduced and established as a premier brand of quality service being delivered to customers in a consistent and distinctive manner. By the late 1980s this concept evolved into Firestone Tire & Service Centers.
